Roller Hockey Canada Congratulates Jaxon Cover on Historic NHL Draft Selection

Roller Hockey Canada proudly congratulates Jaxon Cover on being selected 32nd overall by the Ottawa Senators in the first round of the 2026 NHL Draft.

Jaxon's journey from Grand Cayman to the Ontario Hockey League, and now to the National Hockey League, is an extraordinary accomplishment. His story is also a powerful reminder of what the inline hockey community has long recognized: roller hockey helps develop elite skating skills, creativity, hockey IQ, confidence, and a lifelong passion for the game.

Growing up in a non-traditional hockey market where year-round access to ice was limited, Jaxon's development included significant time playing roller hockey. His success demonstrates that the path to elite hockey can begin in many different places. For countless young athletes, that journey starts on wheels—in local communities, outdoor rinks, and inline leagues where opportunity, repetition, and love for the game come together.

"On behalf of Roller Hockey Canada, I want to congratulate Jaxon and his family on this incredible achievement," said Dave Sehn, President of Roller Hockey Canada. "His story is inspiring for every young inline hockey player across Canada and around the world. It reinforces what so many coaches have always known, that roller hockey is an outstanding sport in its own right while also providing a valuable development pathway for athletes pursuing the highest levels of hockey."

Jaxon's selection represents more than an individual achievement. It highlights the growing impact of inline hockey worldwide and reinforces the importance of providing accessible opportunities for young athletes, particularly in communities where ice hockey may be seasonal, limited, or unavailable.

As Roller Hockey Canada continues building national athlete pathways and expanding participation from coast to coast, stories like Jaxon's serve as powerful examples of what is possible when young players are given the opportunity to develop their skills, regardless of where they begin.

Roller Hockey Canada would be honoured to support Jaxon in any capacity he feels appropriate throughout his professional career and, if he chooses, to work alongside him to help inspire the next generation of inline hockey players across Canada, the Cayman Islands, and the international hockey community.

Jaxon's achievement is not only a personal milestone, it is an inspiration to every young athlete who has ever laced up a pair of inline skates, picked up a stick, and dared to dream.
